We would call this a squash in the US :) Although I'm not sure which type it would be! I've seen these dried up and used in decorative corn-a-copias!

I think we'd call this a yellow squash. Great saute'd or in a stir-fry, or even steamed.
Now I understand the difference between a pumpkin and a squash.In Italy, we call both types "zucca" nice pic, as usual.:)
